I hear your gasping breath, it sounds so close,
the melody rings in my ears.
You sound so sweet, they all do,
I can't picture what you must feel right now.
I catch a glimpse of your face in the dim light,
the beads of sweat glistening on your face.
You must be getting tired, we've been doing this for so long now,
You look so fatigued, but yet you don't give in.
You drive me wild, the way you play with me,
each time I get closer you just push me further away.
I place a hand on you, you brush me away,
I get a grip on you, you slip away.
You carry our little game on, I don't mind,
it much more than fun when they play.
You've been in the lead since the start, I don't mind,
it is much more fun to chase those who're ahead.
The street echoes with the sound of our game,
it's late, no one will catch us.
So we can make as much noise as we like,
no one to stop us, no one to interrupt.
You start to stumble as your legs give in,
as your muscles start to burn and seize up.
Your pained breathing signals it's time for me to finish,
it was fun whilst it lasted...
I quicken my pace to catch you, now I shall play the lead,
I take a firm grip of your arms and throw you up against the wall.
You're weak, I place my ear to your breast,
the melody of your heart matches that of your breath.
You murmur words to me, I've heard them before from others,
each time their words are drowned out by the melody of their own hearts.
All I chase them for is this melody, all are different,
all end the same.
I direct my vision towards your eyes, they are so beautiful,
light from the nearby lamppost makes your tears shine like stars.
Your lips tremble and quiver at the though of what I will do next,
don't worry, it'll be quick...
I extract the scalpel from my coat pocket,
with the flash of steel in my hand, I dim your melody.
The blood streams from your neck, cascading down your breast,
staining your tear soaked clothes red.
I smile and thank you for this game of chase,
it was wonderful, and my only regret is that its our first, and our last, game.
I crouch down, lowering you into your pool of blood, I rest your head gently on the ground,
stroke the side of face, and lower your eye lids.
I stretch back up to my full height, towering over your lifeless body,
looking down on you I can see my reflection stained within your blood.
My hat, my coat, my sinister smile,
all coloured to that ghostly crimson of your blood.
As I leave I pause,
leaning against a lamppost, I take in the rush I just had.
I feel myself go light headed, the excitement, the pleasure, the pain;
they all hit me at once, yet I will crave more, like a drug, I always do...
This is just how I am...
